To this end, we apply better intelligence with our feasibility analysis service which allows us to search large databases for information about patients with specific diagnoses and other characteristics.

Modular identification and selection process

In order to determine potentially optimal locales for trials, we use our feasibility analysis service to identify and select sites following a modular, three-phase process:

  • Targeted search of proprietary patient claims database – Parameters of interest are selected beginning with the target disorder using its ICD-9 code. Relevant demographic factors such as age and gender constraints are added as are, in certain cases, laboratory parameters of interest. Our proprietary database of de-identified patient data is queried, producing the number of patients for whom a claim for reimbursement for health care services has been submitted within a specified time period and according to their geographical distribution. 

  • Integration of external data and geographic mapping – Data from relevant external databases are integrated with our proprietary data and, when appropriate, overlaid on the geographical maps. These data might include advocacy chapters, specialized health care centers, or services of limited availability. 

  • Comparisons with the i3 investigator database – Providers identified using the claims database are compared with the records in both the i3 investigator database and the available FDA 1572 database to identify those physicians within the overall group who are also clinical research investigators. Our investigator database offers a wealth of relevant information, including, but not limited to:
    • Site characteristics (e.g., community-based, institutional, or academic)
    • Disorders of interest
    • Populations available
    • Past experience metrics
    • Special capabilities
